Case Closed!!!

 Today the 23 of November Mrs Taffee Came in and confessed that she was our criminal. She said that she came into team Whetu to borrow the HDMI cable because her chrome casting wasn't working.  When she came into team Whetu she saw our Milkyways and she felt a bit hungry so she came on took some from our jar. On the same day, she came in and took our chocolates she got her hair cut and coloured. Her fingerprints were on a lot of things they were on the door, the Milkyway wrapper and the jar lid. This is what she told us happened came to school to come and do some paperwork and she came into team Whetu to get the HDMI cable for her computer and when she came into the class she saw the chocolates she took some out of the jar and dropped some when she was running to the door and then she ran as fast as she could out of the door to her car and she was parked in front of the teacher's office. She had a cut before on her right-hand wrist and when she pushed her hand on the glass to enter the class she cut her hand in the same spot again.

 This is my letter of the week and this week the letter was R hope you like it and I made the pineapples by myself.

Athletics Reflection.

 Yesterday was our school athletics day and I competed in 200m race, 100m, 800m, Shotput, Long jump and High Jump. I made it into the finals for 200m and 100m but 800m was just something you can do if you want and I did so the didn't do finals for that.  I am quite proud of my self because in the first round for the 100m I came 2nd and just by a little bit as well so I was really impressed. The event I found challenging was High Jump because there was a different mat to what we practiced on the mat we had was really low and the mat we used to have was high so I was used to the high one but it is what it is. The event I found the most enjoyable was probably shot put because I came 3rd in that and I was also a bit shocked at that as well. I actually found two things enjoyable so I was happy about running as well so yeah that was cool. The learning powers I think I used on the day was Courage for keeping on going when it got hard Creativity because we were all dressed in blue and cheering on Orewa. Fantastic Fingerprints.

 For the crime scene rotations, we did fingerprints with Mrs Kennedy. We watched some videos of how to do it and the different kinds of fingerprints and how no one has the same fingerprints as you and identical twins don't even have the same fingerprints. When it was time for us to do our own fingerprints we got a sheet and some ink on this plastic stuff and a piece of brown paper to clean some of the ink of your finger.  When we were ready to start we got the ink paper and we rolled our thumb in it and if we had too much on we just wiped a bit of the brown paper and then we roll it onto the paper and you do all your finger and you do your other hand as well. When you are finished you write what you have you can have Loops, Whorls, Arches and double loops but those are rear I have 8 Worls and 2 Loops on my two pinkys it was fun learning about fingerprints and I hope you like my post.

Mystery of the Astronaut.

 This Mystery I worked on my own and it was quite easy and this was the Litericey challenge I got the answer right again and it was Hugo Cooper I did heaps of working our in my book and yeah it was quite easy.

 For this mystery, I worked on my own and it was really challenging but I got the right answer it was the Moji with the smiling face and the halo above it I had fun working on this and I did heaps of working out in my maths book.

Crystal Painting.

 This was our last day doing crystal growing and today we did some crystal painting and black paper it was so fun so what we did was that we mixed this special salt into water and we put it into some pots and we got a paintbrush and we started to paint I tried to paint a X-mas tree but yeah it didn't really turn out that well but there were still heaps of crystals on it and the crystal looked like little needles and yeah it was fun anyway and I hope you like it!!!

  

Crystal growing Option workshop.

This week for option workshop I chose science and for science, we grew crystals it was fun so what we had to do was we had to get an ice block stick and tie some string on to it and then we had to get a pipe cleaner and put it in a shape that we wanted to look like then we mixed Borax and water together and then we put some food colouring in and then we could make it a different colour so we put the pipe cleaner in and we left it overnight and it turned into a crystal!!! it was so much fun.

 

Should animals be kept in zoos?

 For a while we have been doing an inquiry on Should animals be kept in zoos I think my presentation was a supernova and I am really happy about how it looks.  I think that animals should be kept in zoos because they have a longer life because there are no predators in zoos and some zoos really I mean really look after their animals and in good zoos, they have a good life.  We have been working on this topic for a while and it has been really fun and exciting I have learned so much about zoos and what they do with their animals and it is interesting learning about the animal's enclosures as well hope you like my inquiry.

Cooking workshop.

 This week I chose to join the cooking workshop option.

On the first day we went over some safety rules and we made up a recipe to make soup. 

On the second day we all brought some vegetables and we all peeled and cut up the vegetables and we put them together in a big pot. 

On the third day we cooked it all up in a big pot and we put flavouring in the soup what made it taste good and we left it to cook for 3 hours and it was ready and we ate it. 

The part I liked the most was peeling the vegetables and cutting them it was a fun experience making soup and I learned a lot about safety in the kitchen and flavouring in the soup. 

Week 4 Letter of the week.

For week 4 the letter of the week was H and it was fun I think it looks Ka Rawe Awsome.

NPS Cross Country

 This year for Cross Country we could not do it at South Farms because of Covid-19 but the school decided to have it anyway but we did it on our Ngatea domain and it was fun because it was something different and it was still a Cross Country. And this is my Reflection.

Cross Country Reflection 2020

This year I participated in the NPS Cross Country held at school on the Ngatea Domain.  I ran in the 10 girls age group.

I am most proud of getting 8th and getting into HP because this year was hard because I am not that good on the flat but it was fun and it was something new. 

I think my effort towards our training at school was really good I also did training out of school and it found it quite fun doing training at school because you could push yourself so much and I love that.

I showed the Learning Power of Resilience by not stopping at all in running and pushing myself really hard and doing better then I did before.

 This was our 3rd time doing a letter of the week and this week was the letter S it was so fun hope you like it!!!

Whetu Challenge Cartoon Google Drawing.

This week for Whetu Challenge we had to make a google drawing of The Simpsons, Incredibles, Sponge bob square pants and so on.  We picked The Simpsons and it was really fun we all did a really good job it was a bit of a slow start but we all ended up finishing all of ours.  My favourite part was exploring the different types of things you can do on google drawings like it was so fun learning to do the line thing were you trace over the picture.  We all got a character each and we had to make them our selves and when one person was done making their character they got to start on the background and when everyone finished we all put our characters that we did on the google drawing doc with the background on it.  It looked so cool at the end and we all worked so well together because we had to work in our learning constellation doc people and we were all pretty good at google drawing I think that the Kermits did a good google drawing but my favourite was Marge Simpson hope you like our Cartoon google drawing.

Egg Drop Challenge.

This week for Whetu Challenge we did the Egg Drop Challenge.


My favourite part was working with Madeleine and Marley because we worked so well together and we came up with a good plan for our Egg Drop Challenge but when it came to the bit where we had to drop the creation well the egg cracked. We were very proud that we even got to make our creation but it was still a bit sad it cracked my lest favourite part was throwing it off the Grand Stand because when we did it broke our creation but it was fun seeing what it would do. Me Madeleine and Marley came up for a name for the egg we named it Mrs Jerild and it was funny because we write on the paper bag we used have a good flight Mrs Jerild. When we were making our little thing for the egg to go in it didn't take that long to make because we had a very well explained plan so yeah that was a very fun challenge and we are not that happy that it cracked but it's ok:)

We do this new task and it is called letter of the week so you get a letter and you have to spell things with your letter in it. this week the letter was B so you have to write an onomatopoeic word with B in it like BOOM! and you get some other questions like that to spell with B.

Term 2 2020

This was a weird term because of covid-19 but I still had fun at school.

My Term 2, 2020 Reflection

The new learning activity that I have enjoyed the most this term is Number of the Day because I love how it gives me a challenge and it helps you learn new maths strategies.




Something that has challenged me this term has been Maths Mystery because you have to really turn on your brain because if you make one mistake then it mucks you up for the rest of the clues.

The Whetu Challenge I enjoyed the most was the egg carton art. It was so fun because you got the chance to paint and it was a challenge because if something didn’t work out as you had planned then you had to change some of your plans.



The opt-in workshop I enjoyed the most was x-country running because it helps me with my fitness and my breathing for swimming. I just love going out and having a run in the day and I am excited for x-country!!!

An aim I have for my learning is to learn new maths strategies because they would really help me with my number of the day.

Egg Carton Creation Week 11 Whetu Challenge.

This week for the Whetu challenge we had to make something out of egg cartons it was very fun this week I made a sewing kit and it was so cute I didn't get to finish it because there wasn't enough time I still think that I did a really good job and it is really handy for keeping all your needles and sewing stuff in. I painted it blue and I think I did a really good job me and Madeleine did the same thing but with different sewing stuff in it, everything was going really well until Madeleine cut herself with her fabric cutting scissors and there was a little bit of blood everywhere. I made my sewing kit out of blue paint, egg carton, and sewing things in the egg carton I think I did a Supernova!!!

Read Write and Predict #4

Gordon lay in his bed, listening for sounds. CRUNCH! GROAN! SLOBBER! GRRRR!

There it went again. He pulled the covers over his head but the noises wouldn’t go away. He slipped out of bed and turned his light on. He stood, looking around. He walked over to his closet and opened it. There was nothing in there except for his toys and his clothes. He dropped to his knees and lifted the covers.

"HI!" the monster said, sliding out from under the bed. Gordon was about to scream when the monster put his fingers to his lips. "Shhh! Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you."

Gordon didn’t say a word. He stared at the monster. It was purple, had big yellow spots all over its skin, two fat horns sticking out of the top of its head, sharp claws on its feet and chubby fingers. Its lips were bright green and its eyes were orange. Gordon noticed a tear running down its face. "Why, why are you crying?" he stuttered. Because I have a cut can you please help me. “Of course,” said Gordon. Gordon bent down and saw a cut on his leg he got a cloth and started to clean it up. A couple of months passed and Gordon and the monster were best friends but one night the monster came to see Gordon and he was crying again he told Gordon that he missed his Mum and Dad. Gordon said ok so he was going to go the next night but he is going to come back and see Gordon. The next night came and the monster was packed to back home “Goodbye Gordon” said the monster “ Goodbye” said Gordon back until next time.

The monster is probably hurt and he maybe wants help from Gordon the monster askes for help and Gordon helps him with his cut and they see each other every night.  One night when the monster came to see Gordon he told him he was sad because he wanted to go back to the monster world and go see his Mum and Dad.

Maths Mystery week 11

This is my maths mystery it was really hard but I did it with TK we got Amalia Clifford we hope we get pulled out of the draw because this week it was so hard.  The thing I loved about this maths mystery is that it was a really big challenge and it took us nearly a whole week to do but I loved it because it made me understand things a lot better and ya it was fun working with TK. 

Paper plane challenge.

Whetu Challenge - Paper Planes







Today our challenge was to design an accurate paper plane. We were given a draft piece of paper to trial and a good piece to use once we had tested the accuracy of it.





Before we started I thought this challenge was going to be exciting and different it was different from all the other challenges because we had to make a paper plane and we got to decorate it so it was a bit different.





I decided to use the design on the top of the plane because I did a heart and That was the biggest place to put it and when you open up the heart it had zig-zags and then it looked like a broken heart but I think it really looked like veins fly trap.





The hardest part was making it go into the hanger because it had a runway and I got it on the runway but it was hard to get it into the hanger because you had to fly your plane accurate but it was fun and it was a real challenge.






During our competition time I managed to score 14 but that was only one of my scores but I forgot the other ones. I got it on the runway a couple of times but I never got it into the hunger!!! this was another fun Whetu challenge:)

Read and predict #3

This is my read and predict number 3 it was so fun I added more detail them I did on all my other read and predicts and I am proud of myself.  This read and predict it was a person walking in a desert and he ran out of water so it was a good story to work with I hope you like my read and predict and I think it is a supernova!!!

As Frank marched through the desert, the high winds blew sand at speeds that stung his exposed skin. He looked back and could see his footprints for hundreds of feet, beyond that the winds had blown them away. He had no idea how long or how far he had walked. He turned his back to the wind and opened his canteen. He attempted to pour it into his mouth, but there was not a drop. He rolled his tongue around the nozzle of the canteen, but it was bone dry. Frank dropped the canteen in the sand and continued walking. His steps slowed. He was getting dizzy. The sun's rays seemed to only increase in intensity throughout the day. It hung high overhead and punished all that resided in the desert beneath it. Frank was lightheaded. He felt his knees get wobbly...

1. What event is most likely to occur next? I think he is going to fall over and then a plan passes bye and the people land and run over to him they put him on the plan and they go to the nearest place that has water.  They brought him out of the plan and got him a drink of water they put water over his face and he opened his eyes a little bit but not that much and them they made him drink the water.  After a while, he sat up and told them how he didn’t know where he was going so the people offered him a ride on there plan he said yes so they took off.  He pointed down at his village and said a big thank you to the travellers.

2. What evidence from the text supports your prediction? In the story, it said that he got a bit dizzy and then his legs got wobbly so I thought he would faint or something.  In the desert, some people fly plans to look at the sites so they would have flown over him and saw him lying in the sand so they landed and took him to help him.  And I wanted a happy ending so I put he saw his home and he returned home.

Word of the week.

This is my word of the week it was really fun the word of the week was luminous it was a very fun word to learn about I worked alongside Mia and we had good fun.  It was kinda hard to find a picture of luminous because we didn't really know what it looked like but I thought luminous was something bright and we found something that we thought it looked kinda like so we went with that picture this was my first word of the and it was fun.

My Read and Predict #2

This is my 2nd read and predict it was really fun I love these because you have to do a lot of proofreading and a lot of spelling and I love it because in a way I find it challenging and really fun so this is my read and predict.

"Don't forget to lock the barn behind you, so the animals don't get out." Farmer Green told his new farmhand, Danny. Danny nodded and went to work. He fed all of the animals, and then he cleaned the stables. It was hard work, but Danny was happy to have a job. At first Farmer, Green watched him carefully, but gradually he gave Danny some distance, showing him his trust. Danny was exhausted from a hard day's work. He wiped the sweat from his brow and proceeded to exit the barn. He left the lock in a pile of hay by the shovels and shut the door behind himself, walking away from the unlocked door. Danny was off to see Farmer Green to find out his next task...

1. What event is most likely to occur next? The animals are going to escape and Danny will find out the animals have are gone and try to hide it from Farmer Green and he will try to catch the animals but later on, Farmer Green will find out and they would work together and catch the animals but after they are finished locking them in the barn Farmer Green told Danny that he lost all trust and he was fired.

2. What evidence from the text supports your prediction?  At first Farmer, Green watched him carefully, but gradually he gave Danny some distance, showing him his trust. That bit made it clear that Farmer Green was really trusting him and he broke the trust

Week 9 blog challenge.

For this week's blog challenge we had to do what our lives would look like in 2030 it was really fun we had to do an avatar and when you compare my avatar to the one in 2030 they look different but I don't know what I would look like 2030 so I just guessed.  And the avatar looked pretty old and ya I think I did a good job at it and we also we had to do the places I have visited and I want to visit a whole lot of places but I just did the places I wanted to see the most and ya.  I really want to be a vet because I love animals and my mum is a vet and she is a really good vet and I want to be a really good vet as well and I want to help animals because they are so cool.  I will be 20 in 2030 and that is really old I think I might be working as a vet or I will be in university so I will be really old I think I will still be friends with a lot of people but these are maybe the main people Lily, Ashley, Tayla and the thing I will achieve I don't know but let's see what I will achieve!!!!

Tennis ball towers.

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge





Today for our Whetu Challenge we worked in a group to build a tower out of newspaper, 2 straws and sellotape. We needed to make our tower strong enough to hold a tennis ball and be able to stand alone (not leaning on anything or needing support).





Today I worked with Lily and Marly I worked with them because I have never worked with them before and we were quite happy with what we did.





At first, we had trouble getting the newspaper to stay because it was very floppy but we all loved a good challenge.





The easiest thing was building the base because it was very strong because we taped a whole lot of newspaper together so that was the easiest thing dor us





The best part of our tower was that it was very tall it measured at 118cm so we were very happy and we got the tallest tower so we are very proud.





Our tower looked a bit funky because there was a lot of sellotape all over it and it looked very weird but it's still the tallest so we didn't care





In the end, our tower fell over because the top we not that strong so it could fall over but it held for a long time so it doesn't matter.

This is my predictor role it was very fun I loved doing it because it was exciting because words were very exciting and I tried to make my words exciting as well so it was a good challenge.  The thing I least liked about it was I didn't really know what I was doing to I asked Mia and she was a big help.  I think I did a good job predicting the little story and it was really fun!!!

The little story
Vince Thunder waved to the crowd one more time before he put on his motorcycle helmet. The crowd cheered uproariously. Vince looked down the ramp and across the 17 school busses that he was about to attempt to jump. It was a difficult trick and everything would need to go right for him to nail it. His cape blew in the wind. As Vince hopped on his motorcycle and started down the ramp, he noticed something that he had not seen before. There was a large oil slick at the end of the ramp. He attempted to stop the bike, but it was too late. He had already built up too much momentum...

My prediction
What event is most likely to occur next? I think he is going to slip and full of his motorcycle because of the oil and he is going to go to the hospital and is too scared to do motorcycling but he faces his fears and he does it and becomes famous.

My evidence
What evidence from the text supports your prediction? Because the way it said too late he had already built up too much momentum… something bad was going to happen and he might get really hurt because of the oil slick.

Whetu catapult challenge

The things that I used to make my catapult were three rubber bands, seven popsicle sticks and a plastic spoon some people didn't use a plastic spoon but we did because they used the sick but we used the spoon because we thought it would work better





To make my catapult I worked with Mia and Tayla they were very good people to work with because they are good at problem-solving and working as a group we did work very well as a group and we are all very proud of what we did.





The most challenging part was making the actual catapult because everything we tried it failed so we just made a random one and it didn't work very well and we also had trouble tying the rubber bands on as well because they always snaped.





Our best results were how high it went because we got into the finals and it still went very high but we didn't win we didn't think we had a chance but we got there and we got into one final. For the how can get it the farthest challenge we got nowhere but that was okay because we got into the finals on the first round.





Overall I think that we did really well and it didn't matter if we didn't do that well on the second one but the first on again we were o happy and it also didn't matter because there was no prize and we are happy with what we did.

The emoji challenge.

This week I did the emoji challenge it was really fun my favourite part of making it was doing the flowers it took a long time but I did and it looks really cool.  My least favourite part would be doing the easter eggs because they have designs in them and they were very hard.  I love my emoji and I hope you love it too.

Week 1 Reflection of coming back to school

What has been my highlight this week playing with my friends and learning with my teachers.






What was I nervous about this week was social distancing because I came from a house with only my family in it and it was a bit weird seeing other people.










For dress, up day I dressed up as a cowgirl because that is all we had in our dress up box and it just so happens that the teachers dressed up as cowgirls.










The funniest thing that has happened this week is seeing the teachers dress up crazy that was really funny.










I think the best-dressed person was Marley because she was dressed as a cow and we pretended that she was a cow that I owned.

Milk bottle art.

The creation I made was an Owl and it was made out of a milk bottle.

The hardest part was glueing down the wings because they kept on falling off.

The easiest part was drawing the eyes because it wasn't that hard to cut them out.

I enjoyed finishing it because I could see the final look.

My egg carton art.

Art for this week was an egg carton art it was really fun I did the face and I did my Mum as the face.  The hardest part was glueing the lips and eyes and stuff on The easiest part was painting it I tried to make sure it looked like Mum so much.  I put her Hauraki Vets T-shirt on with the logo on it it was really fun.  I also did her hair she has brown her and a bit of blond bit through it and a bit of grey but I didn't put grey in because Mum hates her hair with grey in it.  I put her gold necklace on it as well and I put sparkles on it as well I loved this art.

Week 4 of Chapter Challenge in lockdown.

I am a bit late on posting this week's Chapter Challenge I drew an X-ray of Fudge it was really fun but it was really hard to draw.  My least favourite part about this task would be the tummy I draw it a bit big but that was because of the rib cage.  but that's okay I also draw dribble in his tummy.  I didn't put colour in it because an X-ray doesn't have colour.  And my favourite part would be drawing the teeth because I mist out his two front teeth and it looks a bit funny!!!!!

Our Lego stop motion

For Kian's class, he had to do a lego stop motion challenge for his Mind Lab thing it was really fun.  I have never done stop motion before so it was really fun helping Kian and Dad helped as well.  It took us 3 hours to do just 44 sec so that was a bit surprising.  In the end, we didn't have much time to get it on Mind Lab so we thought.  In America, I think they are a day behind us so we were told we had to get it in bye 7:00 but America time so we got really confused and we cried because we thought that it was too late.  I am going to try and put the video on if it doesn't work then send me a message I hope it works!!!

Our bonfire!!!

We had a bonfire it was really cool and it was really big in lockdown we have been cleaning out our sheds and stuff like that and we didn't know what to do with all the wood so we burned it all.  It took a long time to clean out the shed it took about a week to do.  When we set it on fire it was really big but it settled down after a while.  We had another fire and we roasted marshmallows on it it was really fun and hot!!! Mum also got the hose so that we can wet the grass around it and if the fire gets out of control we have a hose.

Week 3 of Chapter Challenge in lockdown.

This is week 3 for Chapter Challenge this week was really fun I did the invitations to Fudges birthday it was really fun.  I did an invite for Jenny, Sam, Ralf I put monsters on the invite and my favourite part was drawing the monsters because I like drawing things and I also liked to colour them in and I think drawing the monsters gave it a little more pop.  My least favourite part was writing because by the time I did three my wrist was really sore but it was a really fun task.

How to look after your rabbit in lock-down.

This is my rabbit Barney he is a flemish giant or just a really big rabbit he is getting looked after heeps now because of the lock-down.   We had another flemish giant and her name was Sera and we had a guinea pig but they both died so we just have Barney.  So I am going to teach you how to look after your rabbit my rabbit eats a lot so it is good to feed him something healthy so we feed him a lot of veggies.  We feed him puha and carrots and he loves it and we also brush him and if you don't brush your rabbit then your rabbit's fur then it will start to come out and blow everywhere.  And there is one more thing you have to make sure that you cut your rabbit's nails because if they are too long then they might get court in something and rip the nail off and it really hearts the rabbit.  So I hope that helped you with your rabbit.  And as you can see my rabbit's nails need cutting.

Chapter Challenge week 2 in lock-down.

This is Ch Ch in lock-down it was really fun this week I made up my own task I did fact's about saddle shoes and facts about loafer shoes.  It was really interesting researching about these shoes my favourite part about this task was coming up with it myself.  And my lest favourite part was drawing the shoes because it was really hard and I made a lot of mistakes hope you like my task.

Arts and crafts in lock-down

In lock-down, we have been doing a lot of arts and crafts it's really fun making different things we have been painting and drawing a lot.  And mum also cleared out the art cupboard and found a lot of things we can use.  And it is good because we can work on a lot of things together and it teaches Nikau, my little brother, to share.  Hope you like our creations.
